IPL 2026 is in full swing and it was another high-scoring contest between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings at the iconic M.A Chidambaram Stadium at the Chepauk on Friday. All ten franchises in Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, and Delhi Capitals have now played one game each in the 2026 edition.
Punjab Kings consign Chennai Super Kings to second consecutive loss of IPL 2026
The Chepauk hosted its first match of the season and it was coloured in Yellow but the fans were once again disappointed. Unlike the game against the Rajasthan Royals, the Super Kings’ batting unit came good as Ayush Mhatre headlined with an explosive 73. Shivam Dube (45*) and Sarfaraz Khan (32) also chipped in with cameos lifting the Yellow Army to 209/5 in 20 overs.
However, the start provided by Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh to the Punjab Kings made the score significantly smaller. Arya particularly leathered the Super Kings bowlers with 39 off 11 deliveries in an opening partnership of 61 only in 4.2 overs. Cooper Connolly (36) and Prabhsimran Singh (38) also made valuable contributions, while Shreyas Iyer struck a 26-ball half-century. Although Punjab experienced a slight wobble towards the end, Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis saw them over the line with eight balls to spare.

The Punjab Kings have surged to the top of the tree after their second consecutive win. The Super Kings, meanwhile, are the only side other than Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) yet to open their account after two games.
