Punjab Kings’ young all-rounder Suryansh Shedge has remained unperturbed by their slew of dropped catches in IPL 2026 as the ten-team tournament approaches its business end. The right-handed batter candidly stated that dropped catches or fielding lapses can happen to the best of us and vows the Punjab Kings will deliver a much better outing on the next occasion.

Suryansh Shedge asserts Punjab Kings are a good fielding side

Punjab Kings had missed at least a couple of catches even with their 54-run win to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Mullanpur. However, their catching was woeful against the SunRisers Hyderabad as Shashank Singh, Cooper Connolly and Lockie Ferguson missed one each to allow the Orange Army to get to 235. Although Connolly belted his maiden IPL ton, Punjab Kings still suffered a 33-run loss.

When asked what has been the discussion in their camp about the fielding lapses, the 22-year-old said it’s important to move forward from what has happened but suggested that they will address it in their practice sessions. Shedge said in a question asked by The Sunday Guardian during a media roundtable interaction:

“I think fielding lapses and all of that can happen to even the best of us. All of us have seen it happen to the best of us. So, the only way to move forward is not think about that and focus on what you can do. We have four games in our hand and then the playoffs. So going forward, how will we do, what are the strategies we should use, what practice we are going to do when it comes to fielding. I think that’s a personal question. Everyone likes to do fielding practice in their own way. As a team, I can vouch for it that we are a good fielding side, these lapses can happen to anyone. But in the future, I think people will come back stronger. The only thing is at the end of the day, it’s all about soaking in the situation. Sometimes you can overthink but we as a group, we believe in backing each other and talking things out. We have been doing that and you’ll see a better performance on the field next time.”

“We aren’t looking at how Delhi is playing” – Suryansh Shedge

When asked during the same interaction whether Delhi Capitals’ current form is PBKS’ best chance to regain some momentum after three successive losses, Shedge brushed that thought aside. He asserted that PBKS are only looking at how to put their own best foot forward, adding:

“I think after three losses, we aren’t looking at how Delhi is playing. The focus has always been on how we are playing and how we want to play, no matter who the opposition is. So, I wouldn’t say because we have lost three games it’s a positive for us because Delhi has also lost a few. I wouldn’t take it that way. It’s cricket, anything can happen. We just have to be our best versions on that given day, back each other and know that we can win from any situation. If it would’ve been any team that we were playing next, we would’ve gone with the same mindset. So, I don’t think the team we are playing changes that.”

PBKS had successfully chased down 265 against the Capitals earlier in the tournament.
