MI vs RCB, IPL 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hard-hitter Tim David has been slapped with a fine for his antics in the IPL 2026 match against the Mumbai Indians on April 13, Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium. David has copped a 25% fine of his match fee and accumulated one demerit point for breaching the Level 1 of IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during the match.
MI vs RCB, IPL 2026: What prompted the stakeholders to fine Tim David?
The fine for David relates to the incident that grabbed eyeballs during RCB’s batting innings. The incident occurred in the 18th over of the innings when the umpire decided to change the ball, which had supposedly gone out of shape after David hit Hardik Pandya’s delivery for a maximum. With David continuously tossing the ball to check it, the on-field umpires weren’t happy as a slight heated moment transpired, with Virender Sharma leading it. The reason was that the 30-year-old was not handing over the ball to the umpire despite repeated warnings from them.
The official release stated that the Singapore-born cricketer had breached Article 2.4 of IPL’s Code of Conduct that relates to “disobeying an umpire’s instruction during a match.” David has duly accepted the offence and the Match Referee’s sanction
That was utter disrespect towards the on-field umpires.
The umpire repeatedly asked for the ball, but Tim David remained adamant about checking it.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining slow over-rate in the match.
Will Tim David’s fine impact RCB’s standing in the Fair Play award?
While it is hard to quantify till what extent David’s offence will impact the Royal Challengers in the Fair Play award standings, it is likely to have a negative effect. For the unversed, the Fair Play award goes to the side that upholds the Spirit of cricket, team discipline along with respect for opponents and umpires throughout the season. RCB are currently ninth in the Fairplay award standings.
However, the Royal Challengers look as strong as the previous season as a team, winning three out of four matches and are currently second in the table.
