RCB vs MI, IPL 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) hard-hitting batter Tim David is set to cop a massive punishment for his explosive ‘middle finger’ gesture during the IPL 2026 clash against the Mumbai Indians on May 10, Sunday in Raipur. According to reports, the Singapore-born cricketer is likely to be fined 30% of his match fees along with two demerit points for his obscene gesture. An official statement is yet to be released on the same.
RCB vs MI, IPL 2026: Why did Tim David display an obscene gesture?
The high-octane game at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur went down to the wire as Mumbai Indian set the Royal Challengers 167 to win. It all came down to 15 needing off the final over and eventually 9 requiring off the last three balls as the five-time champions edged ahead, especially after dismissing Romario Shepherd. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s six tilted the scales to RCB’s favour. With two runs needing off the last over, Rasikh Salam Dar and Bhuvneshwar gave their best shot to not only defeat but eliminate the Mumbai Indians from the tournament.

The reaction from David supposedly came after that, seemingly directed to the Mumbai Indians as it has drawn plenty of backlash. Notably, Royal Challengers’ head coach Andy Flower was fined 15% of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of IPL’s Code of Conduct as he spoke aggressively with the fourth umpire and used ‘audible obscenity’ during the match. David, who got out for a duck on Sunday, had also landed in trouble during the earlier game against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium for not obeying the umpires, who had asked him to return the ball.
