MI vs CSK, IPL 2026: How did Ayush Mhatre sustain the injury?

The 18-year-old, who ushered the Indian U-19 team to World Cup glory, has been amongst the few potent batters for the Super Kings. However, he suffered a hamstring tear en route to his explosive cameo of 30 off 13 deliveries against the SunRisers Hyderabad on Tuesday after running a brace. According to an earlier statement of Cricbuzz, Mhatre was to undergo a scan for his hamstring on Monday and was certain to miss the next few matches.

Nevertheless, the latest news means the right-handed batter will miss the entire tournament.

Here’s the statement from the Super Kings’ camp:

Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a left hamstring injury sustained while batting during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. Ayush’s injury will require a rehabilitation period of 6-12 weeks. We wish Ayush a speedy recovery.”

Mhatre’s scores in the tournament read as 0, 73, 1 59, 38 and 30.

MI vs CSK, IPL 2026: Where are Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings placed in the points table?

Despite 10 IPL titles between them, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are 7th and 8th position in the points table. The Mumbai Indians began their campaign with a big win over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium. But they have slumped to four consecutive losses to the Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Punjab Kings (PBKS), making them look completely out of depth. But Hardik Pandya and co. registered an NRR-boosting 99-run win over the Gujarat Titans on April 20, Monday in Ahmedabad to bounce back.

As for the Super Kings, their campaign began with three consecutive losses before pulling off two successive victories over the Delhi Capitals and the Knight Riders. But the defeat to the SunRisers have set them back yet again.
