India vs England, 1st ODI: Former Indian captain MS Dhoni had been present during the recent T20I against England at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham, with the legendary cricketer surprising the fans on his 45th birthday. There is also speculation that the keeper-batter is present for the ongoing first ODI between India and England, given his wife Sakshi Dhoni’s recent Instagram story.

India vs England, 1st ODI: Is MS Dhoni present for the series-opener between India and England at Edgbaston?

While the 45-year-old hasn’t physically been seen at the venue, there is more than enough evidence that he could well be. With Dhoni’s wife posting a story on her Instagram, there is a chance that the legendary cricketer has also arrived at the venue.

With the hosts winning the toss at Edgbaston, England went on to bat first. They started slowly but Ben Duckett shifted gears, plundering two sixes and a boundary off Gurnoor Brar’s first over to set the wheels in motion for their side. Nevertheless, Brar’s second over started England’s downfall as he dismissed Jacob Bethell and Ben Duckett in the space of a few deliveries. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah returned to dismiss Harry Brook for only 1, while Prasidh Krishna got the better of Jos Buttler and Sam Curran for single-figure scores in the same over. At the time of writing this, the Englishmen had also lost their sixth wicket in the form of Will Jacks, putting them in danger of being all out before 50 overs.

Will MS Dhoni be appointed as the Chennai Super Kings coach?

With Dhoni’s playing future highly doubtful and Stephen Fleming stepping down as the coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he will highly come under consideration for a coaching role ahead of IPL 2027. The keeper-batter has the joint-highest number of titles as captain, winning five for the Super Kings, along with Rohit Sharma, who ushered the Mumbai Indians to glory on as many occasions. While there have been no indication of Dhoni getting a coaching role, he could be a contender.

The Yellow Army will need considerable tweaks in their squad and coaching staff, given they haven’t reached the playoffs since the 2023 edition.
