World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open after picking up a right knee injury, dealing a setback to his preparations for the US Open. The Italian was expected to begin his North American hard-court campaign at the Masters 1000 event, which starts on August 13, but will now miss the tournament as he focuses on his recovery.
Sinner had already skipped the National Bank Open in Montreal and has not competed since winning Wimbledon in July. The 2024 Cincinnati Open champion was hoping to return to action ahead of the US Open, but the latest knee issue has forced him to delay his comeback.

Jannik Sinner has pulled out of the Cincinnati Open after continuing to deal with a right knee problem. The World No. 1 confirmed the decision after consulting his doctors and team, admitting that he is not yet fit enough to compete at the Masters 1000 event.
“After consulting with my doctors and my team, I have to announce that I need to withdraw from the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati,” Sinner said. “My right knee has been bothering me and even though we have been working hard with my medical team, I have to accept that I’m not ready to compete yet. I’m very disappointed not to be able to play in Cincinnati and wish Bob and his whole team a great and successful event. I can’t wait to be back next year and I’m now focusing on getting ready for the US Open.”
Sinner’s last appearance came at Wimbledon, where he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final to win the fifth Grand Slam title of his career. The victory also moved him to 11-4 against Zverev in their Lexus ATP Head2Head rivalry.

The 2026 Cincinnati Open has taken a major hit with several prominent names pulling out before the main draw. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has withdrawn with a right knee injury, while World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz is also absent because of a lingering right wrist problem. Alexander Bublik, Sebastian Korda, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Holger Rune and Ethan Quinn are also among the ATP players missing from the tournament, with Korda still recovering from back surgery and Bublik unavailable due to family commitments.
The women’s draw has also lost several notable players. Jasmine Paolini is out while dealing with ongoing injuries, while Karolina Muchova withdrew after undergoing a minor procedure following Wimbledon. Emma Raducanu is sidelined with a stress fracture in her right lower leg, and Hailey Baptiste continues her recovery from an ACL tear. Victoria Mboko and Lois Boisson have also withdrawn, further weakening the Cincinnati Open field.
