Miami Hurricanes running back Jordan Lyle is facing legal trouble after being charged in Florida with a felony count of fleeing or eluding police and a misdemeanor reckless-driving charge. The 20-year-old rising junior was the subject of an arrest warrant issued in Broward County.
Lyle voluntarily surrendered to police on Thursday, a day after the warrant was issued, according to a state attorney’s office official. Court records show that he was released later that day after posting bond, adding an early setback to a season in which Lyle was expected to take on a bigger role for Miami.

Miami running back Jordan Lyle was arrested in Florida on Thursday and is facing charges of felony fleeing and eluding at high speed along with misdemeanor reckless driving, according to Broward County court records. Prosecutors told Local 10 News that the 20-year-old was released the same day after posting $55,000 bail.
According to the police report, the incident dates back to July 10 in Sunrise, Florida. Authorities allege Lyle knowingly fled from a marked police vehicle after its emergency lights and siren were activated, driving in a way that showed “wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property.” Police have not disclosed why they initially attempted to stop him or how they identified Lyle as the driver.
The University of Miami acknowledged the situation but declined to provide further details while the legal process continues. “We are aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle,” the university said. “As due legal process runs its course, we will have no further comment at this time.”

A Fort Lauderdale native, Lyle came through St. Thomas Aquinas High School and emerged as a promising prospect before joining Miami’s backfield.
Lyle showed flashes as a freshman in 2024, rushing for 400 yards and four touchdowns on 54 carries while averaging 7.4 yards per attempt. His sophomore campaign was disrupted by an ankle/leg injury, limiting him to six games, 35 carries, 108 rushing yards and one touchdown. Heading into the 2026 season, he was expected to compete for a bigger role behind senior Mark Fletcher Jr. after returning to full health.
