The Indianapolis Colts have finally addressed their wide receiver needs by agreeing to bring in veteran Keenan Allen. The team had been monitoring the six-time Pro Bowler for several months before moving to complete the deal. Allen arrives in Indianapolis with 13 seasons of NFL experience, having spent most of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers. His only season away from the franchise came in 2024, when he played for the Chicago Bears.
Keenan Allen Agrees to One-Year Deal With Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to a one-year deal with veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen, bringing in the 34-year-old after months of interest. The contract is reportedly worth up to $8.32 million and gives Indianapolis an experienced option for a receiving corps that has been weakened by Michael Pittman Jr.’s offseason trade and Alec Pierce’s recovery from ankle surgery. Allen returns after catching 81 passes for the Los Angeles Chargers last season.
The move also reunites Allen with Colts head coach Shane Steichen, who worked with him as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator. Steichen remained in contact with Allen over the past few months while assessing whether the veteran would be interested in joining Indianapolis. Allen spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the Chargers before being traded to the Chicago Bears in 2024, then returned to Los Angeles last year.
How Keenan Allen Can Boost the Colts’ Offense
Allen finished the 2025 season with 81 receptions for 777 yards and four touchdowns, while remaining particularly effective on third downs. He recorded 34 third-down receptions and 29 first downs, earning the nickname “third-and-Keenan.” A six-time Pro Bowler, Allen ranks 13th in NFL history with 1,055 receptions, along with 12,051 receiving yards and 70 touchdowns. With Josh Downs expected to take on more downfield work, Allen could primarily provide the Colts with a reliable short- and intermediate-route option.
