KKR vs GT, IPL 2026: Kolkata Knight Riders have reached a ‘do-or-die’ territory as they face the Gujarat Titans at the Eden Gardens on May 16, Saturday to stay alive in the playoffs race despite their hopes of reaching there having slim chances. Nevertheless, their chances for a Top 4 finish has seemingly received a big boost as Varun Chakravarthy has returned from a short injury layoff.

KKR vs GT, IPL 2026: What injury had Varun Chakravarthy been suffering from?

The Madhya Pradesh-born cricketer had suffered a hairline injury to his toe and last played only against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The same fixture saw him leave the field and subsequently missed the vital clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur. However, Ajinkya Rahane announced at the toss that the wrist-spinner has returned to the playing XI.

Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Ajinkya Rahane(c), Finn Allen, Angkrish Raghuvanshi(w), Cameron Green, Manish Pandey, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, Varun Chakaravarthy, Saurabh Dubey, Kartik Tyagi.
By contrast, the Titans have made no changes to their XI from their big win over the SunRisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Titans (Playing XI): Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill(c), Jos Buttler(w), Nishant Sindhu, Washington Sundar, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Arshad Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Mohammed Siraj.

KKR vs GT, IPL 2026: What happened the last time the Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans locked horns?

It is the second time that the two sides are playing this year as they locked horns at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Cameron Green’s heroic 79 off 55 deliveries was the lone big hand in the Knight Riders’ total of 180 in their complete 20 overs. However, Shubman Gill’s solid 86 comfortably overshadowed it. Although the Titans had lost some wickets towards the end of the innings, they managed to cross the line successfully with five wickets and two deliveries to spare.

But the Titans are running rampant and have assured themselves a spot in the playoffs with 16 points under their belt. While Gill and B Sai Sudharsan have been outstanding in the top, the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj and Jason Holder have been outstanding with the ball. The Titans will hope to beat the Knight Riders and assure for themselves a Top 2 finish.
