India’s sole remaining hope at the All England Open 2026, Lakshya Sen, will take on China’s World No.6 Li Shifeng in the men’s singles quarterfinal on Friday, March 6, in Birmingham.
World No.12 Sen enter the encounter on the back of a thrilling three-game victory over Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus in the Round of 16. The Indian shuttler battled hard to secure a 21-19, 21-23, 21-10 win and book his place in the last eight.
Earlier in the tournament, Sen produced one of the biggest upsets of the opening round by defeating defending champion and World No.1 Shi Yuqi. The Indian clinched a hard-fought 23-21, 19-21, 21-17 victory, marking his first-ever win over the Chinese star.
On the other hand, Li Shifeng advanced to the quarterfinals after a strong comeback win over Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen in the Round of 16. After dropping the opening game, Shifeng bounced back and dropped only 23 points combined in the remaining two games to seal the win 17-21, 21-12, 21-11.

In the first round, the Chinese shuttler defeated compatriot Wang Zhengxing in straight games, 21-12, 21-16.
The upcoming clash holds extra motivation for the India no.1 men’s singles star, as it would offer him a chance for revenge. It was Shifeng who ended Sen’s run at the same tournament last year, defeating the Indian 21-10, 21-16 in the 2025 quarterfinals.
Lakshya Sen and Li Shifeng have faced each other 14 times in their careers, with the head-to-head record currently tied at 7-7.
However, recent results slightly favour the Chinese player, as Shifeng has won their last three encounters.
