Following disastrous campaigns in two major competitions, Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen aims to bounce back when he clashes against Yushi Tanaka in the opening round of the China Open 2026. Lakshya last featured at the Japan Open earlier this month. Despite entering the tournament with high hopes, he ended up losing the first-round match to local favourite Koki Watanabe. Lakshya had a similar fate at the Indonesia Open, where he suffered a Round of 32 defeat to Alwi Farhan.
Now up against Japan’s Tanaka, Lakshya eyes a comeback in the BWF Super 1000 tournament and hopes to progress to the next round on the back of a commanding victory. His first-round match is scheduled to take place at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, 1 Jinling North Road, Changzhou, Jiangsu, China, on July 22.

The Japanese badminton player is a familiar opponent of Lakshya Sen. He overcame Yushi Tanaka last year to clinch the BWF Australian Open Super 500 title, which also marked his first championship of the 2025 season. Lakshya dominated the match and wrapped up the victory in just 38 minutes. He will look to replicate the same form in the first round of the China Open 2026.
