Barcelona’s final training session ahead of Sunday’s La Liga meeting with Valencia raised concerns as Lamine Yamal was missing from the pitch. The teenage winger did not train alongside his teammates and was reportedly working inside the gym, with no immediate explanation given for his absence.

Yamal’s unexpected absence has put a question mark over his availability for the trip to Mestalla. Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is due to address the media in his pre-match press conference following the session, where he is expected to provide an update on the youngster’s condition and whether he will be fit to face Valencia.

Lamine Yamal’s Barcelona Training Absence Raises Valencia Clash Doubt

Barcelona have been handed a late fitness concern ahead of Sunday’s La Liga trip to Mestalla, with Lamine Yamal missing the team’s final training session before facing Valencia. The 19-year-old winger’s unexpected absence has raised doubts over his availability for Barcelona’s fourth La Liga match of the 2026/27 season, although no reason has yet been given for his failure to train with his teammates.

Yamal had a relatively quiet start to the campaign but came into his own during Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano on Monday night. The World Cup winner was one of the standout performers as Hansi Flick’s side made it three wins from three, having previously beaten Elche and Athletic Club. Flick is expected to provide an update on Yamal during his pre-match press conference, while the teenager’s condition will be assessed over the next few hours.

The concern comes on the same day Yamal was confirmed as one of Barcelona’s new vice-captains after a vote among the squad. His availability for the Mestalla clash, however, remains uncertain, with his condition likely to determine whether he can play. Barcelona are due to travel to Valencia on Saturday afternoon and will stay overnight before Sunday’s game as they look to maintain their perfect record and take advantage of Real Madrid dropping points, with another victory potentially moving them clear at the top of the table.

Barcelona Receive Gavi Boost as Gabriel Jesus Eyes First Squad Appearance

While Yamal’s absence was the major concern from Saturday’s session, Barcelona also received some encouraging news. Gavi and Gabriel Jesus both trained normally with the group, giving Flick two potential boosts ahead of the Valencia clash. Gavi had missed Barcelona’s previous two matches after suffering a knee knock during the opening-day win over Elche, but his return to full training means he is available for selection.

Gabriel Jesus is also in line for a place in the squad for the first time since joining Barcelona from Arsenal. With Gavi back and Jesus nearing his first appearance, Barcelona have received some positive squad news despite the uncertainty surrounding Yamal. Flick will now hope his star winger’s absence from the final session proves to be only a minor concern before the team takes on Valencia at Mestalla.
