Laureus World Sports Awards 2026: Indian Women’s Cricket Team Nominated For World Team of The Year

Indian women's cricket team headlined the nominees for the Laureus World Team of the Year award as the countdown for the greatest show in sports has kickstarted. The Indian women's team is the nominee in the category alongside England women's football team, European Ryder Cup team, McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team, Oklahoma City Thunder and Paris Saint-Germain.

Indian women's cricket team created history last year in Navi Mumbai

The Women in Blue, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, etched their names in history by clinching the Women's World Cup 2025 title as they became the first side from the country to do so. The D.Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai was flooded with fans as India beat South Africa by 52 runs while defending 298 on the big occasion. The semi-final at the same venue also saw them stun reigning champions Australia by pulling off the highest successful run-chase in a women's ODI, hunting down 339 with five wickets to spare.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner included as nominees in Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award

Meanwhile, Tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been included as nominees in the category of Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award. Alcaraz and Sinner battled in three out of four Grand Slam finals last year, with the former winning a couple. Along with the Tennis duo, French footballer Ousmane Dembele, Mondo Duplantis, Marc Marquez and Tadej Pagacar have been named.

As far as the category for Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award goes, footballer Aitana Banmati, Track and field athlete Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Long-distance runner Faith Kipyegon, swimmer Katie Ledecky, hurdler Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Tennis star Aryna Sabalenka are part of the list. 1300 members from Laureus Global Media Panel chose six outstanding athletes from each category.

The winners are set to be crowned on April 20 in Madrid.
