Lionel Messi Eldense Takeover: Lionel Messi is on the verge of becoming a football club owner again. The Argentina legend has reached an agreement in principle to buy Spanish second-tier side CD Eldense, marking another major expansion of his growing portfolio of football investments. Eldense confirmed that the proposed takeover would see Messi acquire 100 per cent of the shares held by Colombian investment group TH Soluciones Group S.A.S.

The deal is not officially complete yet, with due diligence, final legal and contractual procedures and approval from Spain’s High Council for Sports (CSD) still required. But with an agreement already reached, Messi is now closing in on a dramatic new chapter away from the pitch.

Lionel Messi Eldense Takeover: Deal Reached As Club Battles At Bottom Of Segunda Division

Messi’s move for Eldense comes at a crucial moment for the club. Based in Elda, Alicante, the team currently sits 20th in the Segunda Division after taking just two points from their opening four matches of the 2026-27 campaign.

Eldense are still waiting for their first league victory and recently dismissed manager Claudio Barragán following the difficult start.

The club’s current majority owner, TH Soluciones Group S.A.S., took control in October 2025. Under the proposed transaction, the Colombian investment group would transfer its entire shareholding to Messi.

Eldense have spent most of their history in Spain’s lower divisions but have competed in the second tier in three of the last four seasons. The club returned to the Segunda in 2023 after a long absence, making the project an increasingly significant one in Spanish football.

Reports initially suggested that Messi could be involved alongside former Barcelona and Spain stars Andres Iniesta and Carles Puyol. However, the latest information indicates that Messi alone is pursuing the acquisition.

Which Football Clubs Does Lionel Messi Own In 2026?

Eldense would become Messi’s second Spanish club after he completed the acquisition of UE Cornella on April 16, 2026. Cornellà compete in Tercera Federacion, Spain’s fifth tier, meaning Messi’s portfolio would span two different levels of the Spanish football pyramid.

Messi does not currently own Inter Miami. However, Reuters reports that he is due to receive a stake in the MLS club after his playing contract expires.

The Eldense purchase would therefore represent Messi’s first ownership of a club in Spain’s professional second tier, and potentially his most significant football investment yet.
