Liverpool FC wrap up their preparations for the 2026-27 season with back-to-back friendlies against Como 1907. Under the newly appointed manager Andoni Iraola, the Reds will kick off their Premier League campaign with an away fixture against Newcastle United next weekend. Ahead of the competitive showdown, Liverpool hosted Como for two pre-season friendlies, which provided Iraola with a chance to test all his players one last time. The two teams are playing the first game behind closed doors, while the other one is slated to take place at Anfield, with fans allowed to watch it from the stands.
Why are Liverpool playing two friendlies on the same day?
It’s not the first time that Liverpool have taken the approach. At the start of the last two seasons, the Premier League side played a double-header on the final day of their pre-season campaign. They faced Sevilla and Las Palmas in 2024, while in 2025, Athletic Bilbao featured in back-to-back friendlies.
This time the LFC fixture says Como 1907 travel to the Merseyside club for a Sunday double-header. The opening game has 35-minute halves and is expected to feature most of the youth players and reserve members of the squad. Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola, however, may give some minutes to his first-team stars.
At Anfield, fans can expect to see the new signings, but the coach will rotate his squad. The Liverpool vs Como 2nd match is slated to begin at t 6:00 p.m. BST (10:30 p.m. IST).
Liverpool’s recent form
Liverpool FC started their pre-season run with consecutive wins over Sunderland and Wrexham. However, Iraola’s men failed to continue the momentum in the following fixtures, against comparatively stronger opponents. The Reds lost to Leeds United 2-4 while AS Monaco beat them by a narrow 3-2 margin.
Liverpool would be desperate to bounce back against Como and gain some confidence before heading into the Premier League.
