ENG vs NZ, 1st Test, Day 1: Only 10 overs were possible as England’s Test summer kicked off by facing New Zealand in the first of the three red-ball matches at the Lord’s in London. Following the first ten overs, heavy showers interrupted, forcing players to leave the field and the spectators to bring out their umbrellas. The question for now is whether play will resume today or when will it.

ENG vs NZ, 1st Test, Day 1: When will play resume at the Lord’s in London?

With ground time currently 12:36, the development from London is that lunch will be taken at 12:45 PM due to the already lengthy delay. With lunch seemingly lasting for 40 minutes, play could resume at 1:25 PM if the weather clears up. However, the forecast for the next two hours also looks grim but there are some hopes of a few overs taking place.

ENG vs NZ, 1st Test, Day 1: What is the state of play after the first ten overs at Lord’s?

New Zealand captain Tom Latham opted to bowl first, citing the overcast conditions and wanting to exploit the moisture available from the pitch. England handed a debut to Emilio Gay, who opened the innings with Ben Duckett after Zak Crawley was dropped from the side following his inconsistent run in the 2025-26 Ashes series in Australia. Gay played some crisp shots but Kyle Jamieson got the better of him, getting the opener to nick to Daryl Mitchell at slip. Since then, the Black Caps kept it tight, hardly allowing Duckett and Jacob Bethell to get away.

New Zealand (Playing XI): Tom Latham(c), Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell(w), Glenn Phillips, Nathan Smith, Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, William ORourke.
England (Playing XI): Emilio Gay, Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jamie Smith(w), Ben Stokes(c), Gus Atkinson, Ollie Robinson, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir.

England have a lot to gain out of this series from the perspective of the World Test Championship (WTC) final as they are languishing at 7th in the table with only three wins out of 10 matches. The Englishmen haven’t lost a home series since Brendon McCullum took over as coach. New Zealand, on the other hand, are second in the WTC points table and were the last team to beat England in their backyard in a Test series.
