Michael Carrick is set to sign a permanent deal with Manchester United after his impressive stint as an interim manager since January. Though the Old Trafford hierarchy has yet to confirm his appointment, Sir Jim Ratcliff has already made his decision regarding the deal, as confirmed by transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano. Carrick, who spent 12 seasons at Man United in his playing career, must be excited to take over the managerial hot seat permanently.
It’s not the first time that Carrick has managed the Red Devils on an interim basis. Back in 2021, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was snubbed, the former Man United captain was called up for three matches. He was successful in proving his calibre, registering wins over Villarreal and Arsenal and a draw with Chelsea. Carrick, however, left after the season was over, with Ralf Rangnick replacing him at the helm.

Man United may also opt for a direct three-year deal as Ratcliff reportedly sees a long-term future with Carrick. The English manager has already said “yes” to the offer, and the announcement could be made in the coming weeks, perhaps before the season ends.

How Has Manchester United Performed So Far under Carrick in 2025-26 Season?
The major highlight should be the much-awaited Champions League qualification, which Man United missed out on in two consecutive seasons. They sealed a UCL spot with a narrow 3-2 win over Liverpool earlier this month.
Man United have also done pretty well in the Premier League under Carrick. The Red Devils were in a troublesome situation when Ruben Amorim left in January. Since coming back to Old Trafford, Carrick has led his team to win 10 out of their 15 matches. With two more games in hand, they are expected to finish third on the final Premier League table.
