Manchester United are set to receive a financial boost after former academy graduate Mason Greenwood completed his permanent transfer from Marseille to Turkish giants Fenerbahce. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Wednesday (July 15) that all documents have been signed, with Greenwood joining Jose Mourinho’s side after just one season in Ligue 1. The move also triggers a significant sell-on payment for the Red Devils, thanks to a clause inserted when they sold the forward to Marseille in 2024.

According to reports, Fenerbahce agreed to pay a transfer package worth around €35 million to Marseille. Because Manchester United negotiated a 50 per cent sell-on clause on any future profit when Greenwood left Old Trafford, the Premier League club will now receive approximately €12.4 million from the deal without being directly involved in the transfer.
Why Will Manchester United Receive €12.4 Million?
Manchester United sold Greenwood to Marseille in the summer of 2024 for an initial fee reported to be around €18 million. As part of the agreement, United secured a 50% sell-on clause on any future profit Marseille made from selling the player. With Fenerbahce now paying a package worth around €35 million, Marseille’s profit on the transfer activates that clause, meaning United are expected to receive roughly €12.4 million.
