Mumbai Indians’ pair of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were left in disbelief after Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer combined for a relay catch in the IPL 2026 clash on April 16, Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium. A video has surfaced on social media of Suryakumar and Rohit reacting as Shreyas Iyer threw the ball in stunning fashion as Xavier Bartlett was present in close proximity to catch it.
How did Shreyas Iyer and Xavier Bartlett pulled off the unbelievable catch?
It was the dismissal of Hardik Pandya as the Mumbai Indians skipper slapped a knuckle ball from left-arm seamer Marco Jansen. Shreyas Iyer ran to long-on and covered a decent distance and jumped when he caught the ball. But the Punjab Kings skipper threw the ball back in while being in mid-air to Bartlett, who took the catch comfortably. But it was Iyer’s athleticism and awareness that stood out the most.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians had suffered a body blow even before the game as Pandya announced at the toss that Rohit Sharma will miss at least two games of the tournament, owing to the hamstring injury sustained during the fixture against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the same venue. With Quinton de Kock replacing the former Mumbai Indians skipper at the top, he brought up a 53-ball ton. The South African keeper-batter shared a 68-ball 122-run stand with Naman Dhir after Arshdeep Singh got the better of Ryan Rickelton (2) and Suryakumar Yadav (0) in consecutive deliveries.
Although Dhir made a half-century, the other batters could not come up with substantial contributions as the Punjab Kings limited the five-time champions to 195/6 in 20 overs. Arshdeep finished as the pick of the bowlers for the Punjab Kings with figures of 4-0-22-3. Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh finished with one wicket each.
