Pakistan and Multan Sultans all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is under investigation after reportedly getting tested positive for a recreational drug use amid Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. With the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) investigating the incident, the spin-bowling all-rounder will no longer be able to represent Surrey in the T20 Blast fixture later this year.
Will Mohammad Nawaz no longer play a part in PSL 2026?
Having played 98 T20Is, 44 ODIs and six Tests for Pakistan, the 32-year-old has come under the scanner for drug use for the first time. A PCB spokesperson told ESPN Cricinfo on Wednesday the below:
“The International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about this matter, and PCB has begun the due process. The results of this process will be communicated to the ICC today.”
ESPN Cricinfo has additionally reported that the positive drug use came amid the T20 World Cup earlier this year hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The 32-year-old played all seven matches for Pakistan in the marquee tournament and scored 15 runs and bagged seven scalps but the 2009 champions were eliminated in the Super 8 stage. Having allegedly consumed recreational drug, the board could also ban the all-rounder from taking any further part in PSL 2026 for the Sultans. Nevertheless, Nawaz has struggled in PSL 2026, managing only six wickets in eight games, averaging a mediocre 32.66.
He also bowled three wicketless overs during Tuesday’s victory over Rawalpindiz at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Surrey were to announce Mohammad Nawaz’s signing this week
Meanwhile, Nawaz had agreed to be available for Surrey throughout the T20 Blast that is slated to run from May 26 until July 18. A couple of weeks ago, the PCB had also issued the NOC to Nawaz to participate in the tournament but he will reportedly no longer join the side. According to ESPN Cricinfo, Surrey haven’t yet commented on the development.
It remains to be seen what will be Nawaz’s fate moving forward.
