MotoGP heads to Barcelona for the 6th round of the 2026 FIM MotoGP Championship. After the French Grand Prix, Marco Bezzecchi sits just one point ahead of 2024 Rider Champion Jorge Martin in the championship, putting both Aprilia riders right at the top of the standings.
MotoGP Catalonia GP: Free Practice 1 and Practice Results
Alex Marquez has topped the first session of free practice for the MotoGP class at Barcelona. The Gresini Ducati rider put in a fast lap at the end of the session to be the only rider to get into the 1’39s after fitting new tyres for his final run.
Jorge Martin was second fastest, but the Factory Aprilia Racing rider had a massive crash halfway through the session and did not lap after that, only going out again to do his practice starts. Martin was checked over by the doctors and given the all clear.

Moving forward towards the Practice session, which also decides the Qualifying scenarios, took place. Le Mans winner Jorge Martin, who crashed heavily while leading the timesheets this morning, fell again at the end of the afternoon – and will need to take part in Saturday’s Qualifying Pecco Bagnaia was also left outside the top ten in a session that saw Yamaha riders Jack Mille and Fabio Quartararo claim direct Qualifying 2 access. Martin’s Aprilia team-mate and title leader Marco Bezzecchi is also safely through to Q2, in seventh.
