What happened the last time Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers faced one another in IPL?

The two sides faced one another only once in IPL 2025, with the Royal Challengers emerging victories at the Wankhede Stadium by 12 runs while defending 221. It proved to be the Bengaluru-based franchise’s first victory at the Wankhede for the first time since 2015 en route to their title win last year. However, both teams are coming off defeats in their last two games.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru started their IPL 2026 campaign walking over the SunRisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in one home and away game each. However, it needed Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s whirlwind 78 to take down the defending champions in Guwahati despite Rajat Patidar’s rescue act of 63. As for the Mumbai Indians, they began by dismantling the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a home game.

But they lost the away fixtures to the Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals to sustain two defeats on the bounce. One may feel the Royal Challengers will slightly start as favourites on current form as the Mumbai Indians are yet to zero in on their best eleven.
