Brazilian forward Neymar has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 muscle injury in his right thigh and is set to miss at least a month of competitive action for Santos in September 2026.

Following in-depth clinical evaluations and imaging scans conducted by the club medical staff, Santos confirmed that the 34-year-old attacker sustained significant muscle damage during their Copa do Brasil quarterfinal second-leg clash against Palmeiras.

The injury occurred late in the first half at Vila Belmiro when Neymar attempted a left-footed strike from outside the penalty area under defensive pressure.

Moments later, the Brazilian icon was seen clutching the back of his right leg before signaling to the bench. Although he managed to see out the remaining minutes of the opening half, head coach Cuca withdrew him at half time.

Neymar Injury Update: Medical Scans Confirm Grade 2 Muscle Strain In Right Thigh

The medical diagnosis confirms the worst fears of the Santos coaching staff, ruling Neymar out for a minimum of three to four weeks on the sidelines. The timing of the setback comes as a massive blow to the Brazilian club, who were eliminated from the cup after a goalless second leg saw Palmeiras advance three nil on aggregate.

With the recovery period expected to stretch toward October, medical experts at the club will manage his rehabilitation cautiously to prevent any long-term recurrence.

Key Fixtures Neymar Will Miss As Coach Cuca Prepares For Absence

Neymar has been officially ruled out of Santos’ upcoming domestic league fixture against Internacional on Sunday, September 6.

The talismanic forward will also miss the crucial first leg of the Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals against domestic rivals Atletico Mineiro next week, leaving Cuca with a severely depleted frontline during a decisive stretch of the campaign.

Head coach Cuca addressed the situation honestly: “It is not a situation we want; he is probably out. We are going to have to manage without him.”

The injury follows Neymar’s explosive social media criticism of the Vila Belmiro playing surface, where he directly blamed the club groundskeeping team for carrying out turf decompaction only 24 hours before kickoff.

The Brazilian star claimed the uneven, hole-ridden pitch caused unnatural strain during sudden accelerations and braking, directly leading to his latest physical setback.
