Josh Jobe came up with the biggest play of the night, intercepting Drake Maye in the end zone with 21 seconds left as the Seattle Seahawks rallied from a 10-point deficit to beat the New England Patriots 13-10 on Wednesday night. The dramatic finish gave Seattle a winning start to its 2026 NFL season and denied New England victory in a rematch of the previous Super Bowl.
The Seahawks erased a 10-0 deficit despite losing starting quarterback Sam Darnold to a hip injury early in the game. Backup Drew Lock steadied Seattle’s offense, while the defense took over late, picking off Maye on each of New England’s final three possessions.

Josh Jobe Seals Seahawks Comeback
New England had a chance to win the game in the final minute and was already within range for Andy Borregales, who had earlier made a 50-yard field goal.

Instead of settling for overtime, the Patriots went for the win.
New England converted twice on fourth down during the final drive. Maye found Mack Hollins for 11 yards on fourth-and-9 after the two-minute warning, while the quarterback had earlier scrambled for five yards on fourth-and-2.

But the Patriots’ final attempt fell short.
Maye’s third-and-5 pass was underthrown, allowing Jobe to get in front of Hollins just after the receiver entered the end zone. The Seahawks cornerback secured the interception with 21 seconds remaining to end the game.
Drew Lock, Jaxon Smith-Njigba Lead Seattle Rally
Lock completed 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown after being thrust into action following Darnold’s injury.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba was his leading target, finishing with eight receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown.

Seattle finally found the end zone with 11:28 remaining in the fourth quarter. Lock connected with Smith-Njigba on a short fourth-down completion, and the receiver broke into open space to turn the play into a 45-yard touchdown.

That score levelled the game at 10-10.
The Seahawks then forced another turnover on New England’s next possession. Maye tried to attack deep over the middle, but safety Julian Love stepped in front of DeMario Douglas for Seattle’s second interception of the fourth quarter.
Seahawks Defense Takes Over
Seattle’s defense completely changed the game in the final quarter.
Maye had rarely faced serious pressure during the opening half, but the Seahawks eventually recorded three sacks and three interceptions against him.
The first interception came early in the fourth quarter when Maye’s deep pass intended for Romeo Doubs was tipped into the air and picked off by cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett.
Seattle turned that takeaway into the game-tying touchdown.
After Love’s interception, the Seahawks moved inside the New England 5-yard line but could not find another touchdown. Two incompletions and a delay-of-game penalty forced Seattle to settle for Jason Myers’ short field goal with just under six minutes remaining.
That gave the Seahawks a 13-10 lead they would not surrender.
Patriots Lose A.J. Brown, Darnold Exits Early
New England lost wide receiver A.J. Brown to a right ankle injury early in the opening drive of the third quarter.
Seattle had already suffered its own major setback earlier in the contest when Darnold went down after being sacked by Dre’Mont Jones. Darnold sustained a hip injury and did not return.
His early exit forced Lock into the spotlight, with the backup quarterback having played only 38 total snaps during the 2025 season.
The pressure also fell on first-time Seattle play-caller Brian Fleury, who took over the role after Klint Kubiak left to become head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Cooper Kupp’s Big Catch Comes Up Short
With Seattle trailing 10-0 and 5:30 remaining in the third quarter, Lock connected with Cooper Kupp for the longest play of the game at that point.
Lock floated a pass down the right sideline, and Kupp adjusted to the underthrown ball to make a 24-yard catch using his right arm.
Three plays later, Kupp appeared to give Seattle its first touchdown when Lock found him on a quick slant for a 7-yard score.

However, the touchdown was wiped out by an illegal-shift penalty.
Seattle had to settle for a 30-yard Myers field goal, cutting the Patriots’ lead to 10-3 with 3:13 remaining in the third quarter.
Maye finished the night 23 of 33 for 178 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
The Seahawks’ comeback completed a dramatic opening-night victory, while the Patriots were left to rue a fourth-quarter collapse after holding a 10-0 advantage.
