Jean Silva Stuns Jose Miguel Delgado With Bizarre Start and One-Arm Submission in Noche UFC Main Event

Jean Silva overcame a bizarre opening round to finish Jose Miguel Delgado by third-round submission in the Noche UFC main event in Glendale, Arizona. Silva barely threw any offense for the first three minutes and was even dropped by Delgado, but the Brazilian soon found his rhythm and showed why he believes he belongs among the UFC’s elite at 145 pounds. Delgado stepped in on short notice after Yair Rodriguez withdrew through injury and competed well, but Silva’s pressure, power and submission game eventually proved too much.

Silva completely changed gears in the second round, finding his range, landing cleaner shots and controlling large portions of the fight on the ground. He then turned up the pressure in the third, eventually taking Delgado’s back after defending a takedown attempt. Silva trapped Delgado’s arm with his legs, secured his position and finished the fight with a vicious one-arm rear-naked choke at 2:57 of the round, earning one of the $100,000 performance bonuses.

The chaos continued after the final bell. Silva appeared to push Delgado away while he was still on the canvas before running toward the cage and climbing up to UFC executive Hunter Campbell. He then chewed the tape from his gloves before handing them to Campbell, making his message clear: he wants to become the next UFC featherweight champion. The 145-pound title will be contested later this year at UFC 333, when Alexander Volkanovski defends against Movsar Evloev.

Brandon Moreno Edges Joseph Morales to Snap Two-Fight Losing Streak

Brandon Moreno secured a much-needed victory in the Noche UFC co-main event, edging Joseph Morales in a closely contested fight. Two judges scored all three rounds for Moreno, while the third had Morales winning the bout, underlining just how competitive the matchup was. The third round was the clearest of the fight, with Moreno firmly establishing himself and doing enough to secure the decision.

With the win, Moreno can now turn his attention toward the final UFC card of the year, and a potential matchup with flyweight contender Johnson is already gaining momentum. The fight is one that has seemingly been waiting to happen, especially with Moreno ending his two-fight skid and Johnson coming off a Scottish Twister submission win over Eduardo Chapolin in August. The timing could finally be right for the two contenders to meet.
