World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, 22, is close to a major milestone. A win in Melbourne would make him the youngest player to complete a career Grand Slam, beating the record set by Rafael Nadal. The Australian Open is the only major title he has yet to win, and this is the first time he has gone beyond the quarter-finals at the tournament.
Novak Djokovic, seeded fourth, is aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title, which would put him ahead of Margaret Court for the most major titles in tennis history. The 38-year-old is also trying to become the oldest men’s singles Grand Slam champion, breaking Ken Rosewall’s long-standing Open Era record. Djokovic has already won the Australian Open a record 10 times.
Both players reached the final after tough five-set semi-finals. Alcaraz beat Alexander Zverev in a marathon match lasting five hours and 27 minutes, the longest semi-final in Australian Open history. Djokovic defeated defending champion Jannik Sinner in a four-hour and nine-minute battle to book his place in the final.
