Olivia Rodrigo Instagram Goes Viral After Rodri’s Barcelona Transfer: Why Fans Are Flooding Her Comments For The New Barca Star

Olivia Rodrigo Instagram: Rodri’s blockbuster Barcelona transfer has triggered a bizarre social media frenzy, with fans flooding the pop star’s comments to welcome the Manchester City midfielder to Barça. The reason? Rodri does not have an official social media account, while his full name is Rodrigo Hernández Cascante. The joke has an added Barcelona twist, with Olivia previously featuring on the club’s shirt for the May El Clasico.

Barcelona have announced the signing of Spanish midfielder Rodrigo Hernández Cascante, better known as Rodri, on a contract that runs until 2030. The club highlighted his tactical awareness, ability to win the ball back, composure, passing range, leadership and consistency as key qualities behind the move.

However, the transfer has unexpectedly brought Olivia Rodrigo into the spotlight. Barcelona fans have been flooding the American singer and actress’s Instagram comments, not because of her music, but because of the striking similarity between her name and the club’s new midfield signing. The bizarre crossover has turned Olivia Rodrigo’s social media into an unexpected destination for football fans amid the ongoing 2026 summer transfer window.

Why Olivia Rodrigo’s Instagram Is Being Flooded by Barcelona Fans

Barcelona fans have found an unusual way to celebrate the arrival of their new midfielder, Rodri. While the Spanish star has long been known simply by his five-letter name, his full name is Rodrigo Hernandez Cascante, and the name “Rodrigo” now appears on the back of his Barcelona shirt following his move.

The twist is that Rodri does not have an official Instagram account, leaving fans searching for another Rodrigo to welcome him to the club. As ESPN pointed out, Barcelona supporters have instead descended on singer Olivia Rodrigo’s Instagram, filling her comments with messages intended for the Spanish footballer. They explained: “Rodri doesn’t have social media so Barcelona fans went to Olivia RODRIgo’s Instagram to welcome him to the club.”

Olivia Rodrigo has yet to respond to the unexpected flood of football-related comments, which could understandably leave her confused if she has little interest in soccer. Meanwhile, Rodri will prepare for his first matches with Barcelona, who are scheduled to face Al Ahly SC in a friendly on Tuesday before beginning their 2026/27 La Liga campaign on Sunday.

Olivia Rodrigo’s Barcelona Connection Runs Deeper Than Her Viral Instagram Mix-Up

Olivia Rodrigo’s connection with FC Barcelona actually goes beyond the recent social media confusion. Back in May, the Grammy-winning singer became the face of Barça’s shirt for the El Clásico against Real Madrid on May 10, with her logo replacing the usual Spotify branding. She joined a list of major artists, including the Rolling Stones, Drake, Coldplay and Travis Scott, whose identities have appeared on Barcelona’s iconic jersey through Spotify’s collaborations.

Rodrigo was also excited about the collaboration, which coincided with the release of her new single “Drop Dead” and preparations for her third studio album. Reflecting on the opportunity, she said: “Seeing OR [Olivia Rodrigo] on a FC Barcelona jersey for El Clásico, I don’t even know how to process that,” adding, “It’s been so fun seeing the jersey come to life and creating a full collection with Spotify and Barça.” She also said performing for Barcelona fans would be special, calling it “everything to me” and saying, “I cannot wait to see them.”
