VARIOUS OF TORCH RELAY STORY: The Olympic torch relay delighted onlookers who braved cold, wet weather to catch a glimpse of the Olympic flame as it makes its way through Italy in the lead-up to the 2026 Winter Games. The day’s activities started in the city of Tortona on the Alessandria plain and continued east through the Lodi province as it pushes through northern Italy. With stops in Voghera, the commune of Lodi, Casalpusterlengo and Codogno; the flame ended the 40th day of the relay in Piacenza. The flame began its journey across Italy, from Rome, last month and has been to the islands of Sardinia and Sicily, as well as the southern cities of Naples and Bari as part of a 12,000 kilometer (7,450 mile) journey that will end in Milan's San Siro stadium on February 6. The relay has been part of efforts to generate excitement across the country before the Games which will be staged at a variety of locations, with the financial capital Milan and the Alpine resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo as the two main bases.
