Pakistan’s explosive opener Sahibzada Farhan has broken India legend Virat Kohli’s record for most runs in a single T20 World Cup edition. Although Kohli is a custodian of a handful of records when it comes to T20 World Cups, Farhan is now leading the charts for most runs in a single T20 World Cup, passing the India star’s tally of 319.

Having established himself as a bona fide hard-hitter at the top of the innings, the right-handed batter has been handed the role of opening the innings in the 20-team tournament. Farhan crossed Kohli’s record in the sixth over of the innings sent down by Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka, who was welcomed with a boundary. Kohli had aggregated 319 runs during the Men in Blue’s run into the final in 2014, averaging an outstanding 106.33 only in six innings with four half-centuries.
Sahibzada Farhan smashes a 32-ball fifty as Pakistan continue their onslaught
With Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka putting Pakistan into bat after winning the toss citing dew factor, Pakistan have capitalised on the 2014 champions’ sloppy fielding. Farhan and Fakhar Zaman brought their 100-run stand in the 10th over and are yet to lose a wicket and had 42 more deliveries to go at the time of writing this. The openers have put the Men in Green well in track of a 200+ total.
If Pakistan are to qualify for the Super 8 stage, they must beat the Lankans by at least 64 runs to leave behind New Zealand on net run-rate. England are the only side to have sealed their qualification for the semi-finals. Should Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 64 runs or more, they will join England.
