After squaring off in the ODI series in March, Pakistan and Bangladesh will resume their rivalry in Test cricket as the first of the two red-ball games at the Shere-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on May 8, Friday. Shan Masood-led side, who are currently 5th in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings, will look to go up the points table when the opening Test begins in Mirpur.
Pakistan’s only series in the 2025-27 cycle came against South Africa at home and they squandered the chance to make it 2-0 as they lost the second after winning the first. The Asian side is yet to even reach the World Test Championship final and will be looking to rectify that in this cycle. Notably, the tourists have suffered a body blow with premier batter Babar Azam getting ruled out of the first Test, owing to knee injury.
As for Bangladesh, they will have happy memories of facing Pakistan, given the Tigers stunned their arch-rivals 2-0 in 2024. But Bangladesh are languishing at eighth spot in the points table, winning one and drawing the other. Nevertheless, the hosts’ rich stocks of pace bowling should give them plenty of reasons to be optimistic.
