PBKS vs MI, IPL 2026: Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has called for a rule change after a dramatic end to Punjab Kings’ innings in the IPL 2026 game against the Mumbai Indians on May 14, Thursday in Dharamshala. Ashwin feels the DRS decision in the final ball of the innings cost Punjab Kings a precious run despite the lbw decision getting overturned after Vishnu Vinod sent the lbw call upstairs.
PBKS vs MI, IPL 2026: Why has Ravichandran Ashwin has demanded a rule change?
The final delivery of the innings bowled by Jasprit Bumrah saw the right-arm speedster deliver a low full toss as Vishod shaped for the sweep but missed it. The ball struck him outside leg and the umpire raised the dreaded finger immediately after Bumrah appealed. But the ball tracking confirming the ball pitching outside off meant that the decision was overturned. Although the batters took the run, rules state that the ball is dead once the decision is given and no runs get added. Even if the batters take a run and the decision gets overturned, it makes no difference. Here’s what Ashwin said on X:
“The wrong decision has cost Punjab a run, this rule needs to change ASAP! Just like how the “IMPACT SUB” is an IPL rule, the DRS reversal should also be brought into the IPL even if the ICC delays it for some reason.”

PBKS vs MI, IPL 2026: How much have the Punjab Kings set for the Mumbai Indians to win?
Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings have set the five-time champions a formidable 201 to win. After a strong start and being at 107/1 at one stage, Punjab Kings had collapsed to 135/6. Azmatullah Omarazi, playing his first game, struck a quickfire 17-ball 38, while Vinod (15) and Xavier Bartlett (18) also played crucial cameos to lift their side to the 200-run mark.
Punjab Kings desperately need a win to keep their playoff chances alive, while Mumbai Indians are out of the race.
