Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings’ bowling unit helped them spark an outstanding comeback in the IPL 2026 match against the SunRisers Hyderabad at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in Mullanpur on April 11, Saturday. Despite the early onslaught from Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, the SunRisers finished with a very below-par total on a two-paced surface. Later, Punjab Kings’ openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya came up with an assault of their own to hunt down 220 comfortably.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma hammer 105 in the powerplay to set things in motion for SunRisers Hyderabad
Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head did precisely what they expect, with Abhishek dominating the partnership, taking all the bowlers in Xavier Bartlett, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh. Abhishek reached his half-century only in 18 deliveries en route to four sixes off Vyshak’s opening over. It was Shashank Singh with his dibbly-dobbly bowling that opened the door for the Punjab Kings, dismissing Head (38) and Abhishek (74) in the same over. Having been 105/0 after six overs, the SunRisers managed only 114 in the remaining 84 deliveries.
Heinrich Klaasen, known for his six-hitting ability at will, surprisingly struggled in his 32-ball stay scoring only 39 runs with a six and a four before Bartlett dismissed him. Bartlett bowled an outstanding final over, giving away only five runs for a wicket to limit Hyderabad to 219/6 in 20 overs.
Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya make a rollicking start for PBKS
Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya didn’t take long to get into their work and were almost neck-to-neck with where the SunRisers were during their innings. Priyansh raced to a 16-ball fifty before left-arm wrist-spinner Shivang Kumar sent him packing for 57. Shivang also dismissed Prabhsimran for 51, followed by Cooper Connolly for 11 as the Orange Army were trying to eke their way back into the contest.
But Shreyas Iyer was hardly going to let that happen, playing flawlessly for a 24-ball half-century. Although Nehal Wadhera departed for 14, the Punjab Kings chased down the target with seven balls to spare, thereby moving second in the points table.
