PBKS vs SRH, IPL 2026: Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer have won black armbands during their ongoing IPL 2026 clash against the SunRisers Hyderabad at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in Mullanpur. Black armbands are often worn by the cricketers on the field of play to pay tribute to a tragic incident that might have taken place in the home country or elsewhere. The black armband on Sunday were worn by PBKS players over the incident in Vrindavan.

PBKS vs SRH, IPL 2026: What happened in Vrindavan that prompted PBKS players to wear black armbands?

The incident occurred on Friday near the Kesi Ghat. A boat carrying two dozen tourists that reportedly contained pilgrims from Punjab went into deeper waters before hitting a drum left behind following a temporary bridge was destroyed due to rising water levels. Hitting the drum reportedly caused the boat to overturn. According to latest reports, the death toll has reportedly risen to 11. Rescue teams, including the personnel belonging to National Disaster Response Force and the Army have been working relentlessly and have covered a distance of 14 kilometers from where the accident took place. The latest report claimed that 22 people have been rescued but four are also missing.



It’s worth noting that the cops have arrested Pappu, the boat operator as his negligence has come to light. The officials reportedly said that he didn’t provide life jackets and didn’t pay heed to the warnings from the passengers when the boat was operating at a high speed. PBKS players are wearing black armbands to express with the solidarity with the families affected.

As far as the state of the match between Punjab and Hyderabad in Mullanpur goes, the home side won the toss and Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl first. But SunRisers openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma leathered 105 runs off the first six overs to push Punjab onto the backfoot. Shashank Singh broke the 120-run opening partnership. Abhishek Sharma has bossed the innings with a belligerent 28-ball 74.
