PZ vs HYK, PSL 2026 Final: Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam has been denied a massive record as the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 final saw him dismiss without scoring. The right-handed batter had to make his way back in the first over of the innings itself as Mohammad Ali dismissed Babar for a golden duck, denying him the opportunity to become the highest run-getter in a single PSL season.
PZ vs HYK, PSL 2026 final: Who has the most runs in a single Pakistan Super League season?
While Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman now hold the record for most runs in a single PSL season with 588 each, the former had the opportunity to make his record own this time around. The dismissal came in the opening over itself as the former Pakistan skipper slashed a short and wide delivery to pick a boundary through backward point. But all he managed was an edge as it comfortably carried to Usman Khan behind the stumps. The Lahore-born cricketer was the second wicket to fall as Mohammad Haris had perished two deliveries before for 6 after hitting the first ball for a boundary.
Lahore flooded the stands for their King👑
Hearts full, hopes high.
First ball – golden duck. 🦆
Silence… then a roar of undying love.
That’s the magic of Lahore for Babar Azam.
They cheer the man, not just the bat. ❤️#BabarAzam #PSL #PSZVHYDK pic.twitter.com/78aG8DbwB1— Nibraz Ramzan (@nibraz88cricket) May 3, 2026
PZ vs HYK, PSL 2026 final: Peshawar Zalmi bundle out Hyderabad Kingsmen for 129
With Zalmi winning an important toss in the final, they sent the Kingsmen into bat at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Although the Kingsmen lost Maaz Sadaqat (11) and Marnus Labuschagne (20) in the powerplay itself, the Kingsmen still finished with a score of 69/2 in the powerplay. Nevertheless, the fall of Usman Khan brought a monumental batting collapse, headlined by the run-out of Irfan Khan (1) and Kusal Perera, followed by Glenn Maxwell (0) departing for a golden duck.
Only Hassan Khan made it to double-figures after No.3, with Saim Ayub being the only Kingsmen batter to score a half-century as their innings lasted only 18 overs. Aaron Hardie emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Zalmi with figures of 4-0-27-4, while Nahid Rana took two wickets. Mohammad Basit and Sufiyan Moqim snared one apiece. But Zalmi have now slipped to 33/3 in what could be a tricky run-chase.
