Harry Maguire’s red card in the 78th minute of the clash proved to be costly, costing Manchester United a crucial set of two points. Bournemouth held the Red Devils to a 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium. Eli Junior Kripi converted from the spot late in the 81st minute to score the equalising goal. Earlier in the clash, Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot in the 61st minute to break the deadlock. Ryan Christie equalised for the home team in the 67th minute before an own goal from James Hill gave Manchester United the lead.

Harry Maguire’s red card proves costly for Manchester United

Harry Maguire, who made a sensational return to the England national team, was sent off against Bournemouth. The English defender pushed Bournemouth’s striker, Evanilson, earning him the red card. Maguire was lucky not to concede a penalty. A penalty leading to a goal could have resulted in the visitors losing the crucial clash.

The English defender took to Instagram to criticise the decision against him. He talked about how the game has gone soft and wished safe travels to the visiting fans. Maguire, in the caption for his post, said, “So soft but that’s where football is at atm, and I should know better. You would think both decisions would reach the same outcome. We will be back after the break. Safe travel home, Reds. Your support has been unbelievable.”

Manchester United’s poor form against Bournemouth continues

Manchester United has now gone six games in a row where they have failed to beat Bournemouth. Michael Carrick’s side came close to breaking the rut as they took the lead in the 71st minute. However, playing with only 10 players from the 78th minute onwards was always going to be tricky for the visitors. With Maguire sent off, the cracks in Manchester United’s defence started to appear.

Manchester United denied a crucial penalty

In the 67th minute, when United was ahead 1-0 in the match, they were also denied a spot kick, which infuriated both supporters and analysts. Adrien Truffert hauled down Amad Diallo inside the box, and the Bournemouth defender escaped without a card as the Cherries scored at the opposite end.

Manchester United’s interim coach, Michael Carrick, criticised the call and slammed the referee. After the game, Carrick let out his emotions and said, “I think they’re both penalties and it’s a massive moment in the game, and it ended up chaos after that. Massive moment, and I don’t understand how you can give one and not the other, it’s crazy.”
