Bournemouth managed to hold the visiting Manchester United side to a 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday in a very exciting Premier League encounter. United scored from a penalty by Bruno Fernandes and a deflection, while Ryan Christie and Junior Kroupi scored the goals for the Cherries. Also, the match featured Harry Maguire being sent off.

The first big moment of the game came about a minute before sixty minutes when Matheus Cunha got fouled by Alex Jiminez inside the box. Fernandes made no mistake with the penalty and shot the goalkeeper in the wrong direction into the lower right corner.

Almost immediately, Bournemouth hit back on the break after a very debatable call. The referee let the game go on even though Amad Diallo seemed to have been fouled in the area. Christie took advantage of the situation, and after a good finish, the Cherries were on the scoresheet again.

Before long, United found the lead once again as James Hill slipped at a crucial moment and the ball landed in his net following a corner. Nevertheless, the game eventually switched in favour of the Cherries after Maguire was shown red as he fouled the Brazilian striker Evanilson in the box, thus giving the referee no other option but to award a penalty. Kroupi was very composed in front of the goal and shot accurately from the spot with only 10 minutes of the game remaining, thus sealing a point for each team

.

Michael Carrick lamented the lack of consistency in refereeing and the use of VAR. “To award one and not the other; I just cannot fathom it – it is mad, ” he commented. He also remarked that such choices left him totally perplexed, as clarity & consistency in refereeing are very important
