Real Sociedad produced a strong display to edge Athletic Club 1-0 at San Mamés in the first leg, putting the White and Blues in a promising position to reach the Copa del Rey final. However, there is still work to be done as the Basque derby resumes.
La Real have lifted the Copa del Rey three times in their history, most recently in the 2019-20 season when they defeated Athletic in the final. The two rivals have met 14 times in the competition, with Real Sociedad holding a slight edge — six wins to Athletic’s five — and they have claimed victory in four of their last five Copa encounters.
Sociedad head into the clash on the back of a 1-0 La Liga win over Mallorca, a result that leaves them eighth in the table, five points adrift of the top six. If Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men complete the job, they will face either Atletico Madrid or Barcelona in the final.
