Head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and Centre of Excellence chief VVS Laxman are expected to attend the meeting in person. Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill and T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer could also join the discussions remotely.
India’s performances in the recent white-ball assignments are likely to attract considerable attention. The T20I side, despite entering the period as reigning T20 World Cup champions, endured a difficult run in Ireland and England, failing to register a win across six completed matches.
The results have already prompted the BCCI to indicate that the team’s performance would be assessed. The meeting therefore offers an opportunity to examine what went wrong and whether changes are required ahead of the next phase of India’s international schedule.
Rohit Sharma Question Adds Intrigue
Perhaps the biggest individual issue on the table will be Rohit Sharma’s international future. Reports had previously suggested that the selectors were considering moving beyond the veteran opener with an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup.
However, the BCCI subsequently rejected speculation that Rohit’s international career had effectively been brought to an end. With differing reports emerging about the selectors’ thinking and the board’s position, Thursday’s meeting could help bring greater clarity to the situation.
