When two unbeaten teams collide in the Indian Premier League, it’s always a thrilling spectacle for cricket fans, and tonight promises exactly that and more. In Match 16 of IPL 2026, table-toppers Rajasthan Royals take on defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati bringing together the star names like, Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Rajat Patidar, Tim David, and Jofra Archer. Fans know this clash has all the ingredients for a thriller, provided rain doesn’t interfere. Teenage sensation Suryavanshi will bat on the same ground where one of India’s greatest batters, Kohli, will take guard.
Rajasthan Royals sit at the top with 6 points from 3 matches. They come into this game after a 27-run win over the Mumbai Indians in a rain-shortened 11-over match. While Yashasvi Jaiswal stole headlines with a 77 off 32 balls, it was the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi’s 14-ball 39 that turned heads, a knock that could seriously trouble the Rajat Patidar-led RCB tonight.

RR vs RCB Key Battles To Watch in Today’s IPL Match
Despite scoring fewer runs than Jaiswal overall, Sooryavanshi has already piled up 122 runs this season at a staggering strike rate of 248.98. He also smashed one of the fastest fifties in IPL history, in just 15 balls. At the moment, he looks like a nightmare for bowlers, and RCB will be desperate to remove him early. But the big question is, who can do it? Meanwhile, RR will be looking to pick the chase master Virat Kohli and the new RCB saviour Tim David.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar

At Barsapara, the red soil and expected cloud cover could assist Bhuvneshwar’s natural swing, making the new ball extremely dangerous. Sooryavanshi, however, is anything but patient. He has hit boundaries off his very first ball in 3 out of 10 innings. But in their previous meeting, Bhuvneshwar dismantled him, flattening his middle stump. That memory could force the youngster to be slightly more cautious early on.
That said, if Bhuvneshwar drops short, it could backfire. Sooryavanshi’s strike rate shoots up to 191 against back-of-a-length deliveries, and he has the power to clear the ropes at will. This battle could define the powerplay.
Virat Kohli vs Sandeep Sharma

Another mouth-watering battle is between Kohli and Sandeep Sharma. Kohli has started the season well with 97 runs in two matches, but Sandeep has historically had the upper hand. He has dismissed Kohli 7 times in 18 IPL innings, the most by any bowler against him. That stat alone makes this duel a storyline to follow.
With Sandeep likely to take the new ball, the opening overs could decide RCB’s fate. If Kohli survives Sharma’s spells, bigger challenges will await including Ravi Bishnoi in the middle overs and Jofra Archer at the death.
Tim David vs Ravi Bishnoi

This would be a classic finisher vs disruptor showdown. Tim David is in red-hot form, coming off a sensational 70 off 25 balls, including a brutal 30-run over against Jamie Overton that powered RCB to 250/3 against the Chennai Super Kings. But Ravi Bishnoi has historically been his kryptonite. In their last 6 meetings, David has managed just 21 runs and has been dismissed twice by the same bowler. Since 2023, Bishnoi’s leg-spin has consistently tied him down.
Expect RR to use Bishnoi smartly, possibly as an Impact Player, and hold him back for the death overs (16–20) specifically to counter David’s explosive finishing, especially given his insane strike rate of 280.00 this season.
