Sanju Samson Makes Massive Revelation On RR Exit: India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has opened up on his decision to leave Rajasthan Royals, revealing that the franchise had already begun preparing for life without him before his departure. Speaking in an interview quoted by reports on Friday (July 17), Samson admitted that the decision was emotional but felt it was the right time to move on after spending over a decade with the IPL franchise.
Samson explained that while the separation was difficult, he never wanted to become a burden on the franchise or stand in the way of its future plans. The India star said Rajasthan Royals had already started building a new core and were prepared to move forward, making his decision to leave easier despite the emotional attachment he shared with the team and its supporters.
“Moving on from RR was a very big decision for me. I believe that after playing for a team for some time, you start to feel like this is your team and nobody can remove you. But, I always had the awareness that there is a limited time for everyone at one place,” Samson told JioStar’s ‘Superstars’.
“You do your part, and you move out and after the end of IPL 2025, a point came when I felt that I should move on. I told myself that the boys are ready, and RR is ready to play without Sanju Samson. That is when I thought of leaving,” he added.
Why Did Sanju Samson Leave Rajasthan Royals?
According to Samson, there was no bitterness behind his exit. Instead, he believed the timing was appropriate as Rajasthan Royals were entering a new phase. The wicketkeeper-batter said the franchise had clarity over its future direction and had assembled players capable of carrying the team forward. Samson added that he respected the management’s vision and therefore chose to begin a fresh chapter in his IPL career.
Having joined Rajasthan Royals as a youngster, Samson grew into one of the franchise’s biggest icons. He captained the side for multiple seasons, led them to the IPL 2022 final and established himself as one of the league’s most consistent Indian batters. His departure marked the end of one of the longest player-franchise associations in IPL history.

Although Samson has now moved on to a new IPL journey, his contribution to Rajasthan Royals remains significant. His emotional remarks have resonated with fans, many of whom continue to regard him as one of the greatest players to have represented the franchise.
