Scott McTominay has received positive news after undergoing a planned procedure to correct a benign heart rhythm problem. Napoli confirmed that the Scotland international’s ablation at Spire Manchester Hospital was a complete success. The 29-year-old midfielder will now begin a short recovery period.

McTominay was diagnosed with a mild, benign arrhythmia after medical assessments. The issue forced him to pause competitive action, but Napoli stressed that the condition was not considered serious. However, he will miss Napoli’s Champions League meeting with Arsenal and several domestic fixtures during his recovery.

Scott McTominay Surgery News

SSC Napoli confirmed that McTominay underwent the planned ablation procedure in Manchester on Tuesday morning. The club said the operation was completely successful. Napoli’s statement provides the clearest timeline yet for his return to football after the procedure and rehabilitation.

The procedure was required after doctors identified a mild, benign cardiac arrhythmia. McTominay had already missed Napoli’s recent 3-2 Serie A defeat against Inter Milan. The midfielder will also sit out the upcoming Champions League opener against Arsenal.

McTominay joined Napoli from Manchester United in 2024 and has quickly become an important player. He has made 82 appearances for the Italian club, scoring 27 goals, according to Reuters. His first season ended with Napoli winning Serie A, while he was also named the league’s Most Valuable Player.

Scott McTominay Return Date

Napoli said McTominay will rest for at least two weeks before resuming training. That timeline points towards a return to full training around the international break. His eventual match comeback will depend on his recovery and medical clearance.

After the UCL clash against Arsenal, McTominay will also miss Napoli’s Serie A fixtures against Bologna and Fiorentina. He is also expected to remain out of Scotland’s upcoming Nations League matches during the international window.

McTominay’s return will be carefully managed after the cardiac procedure. Napoli have three Serie A points from their opening three matches and will want their influential midfielder available once he is fully recovered.
