After a long wait, Tennis legend Serena Williams made a roaring comeback at the Queen’s Club, featuring in women’s doubles on Tuesday. Williams, who stayed out of competitive tennis for four years, partnered with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko after a wild card entry into the WTA event. Since the news of her return surfaced, fans were eagerly waiting to watch the American star grace the London lawn. Williams didn’t disappoint, as she and Mboko eased past the pair of Routliffe and Melichar-Martinez in straight sets, registering a 7-6, 6-2 win in the opening doubles match.

Williams stole the show at Queen’s Club. The 44-year-old mother of two announced last week she had been handed a wildcard to partner the Canadian teenager, Mboko, in the grasscourt-level competition.
Widely regarded as the greatest female player of all time with 23 Grand Slam singles titles, Williams never officially retired, instead saying that she was ‘evolving’ away from tennis. But when she lost to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the U.S. Open in September 2022 and bade an emotional farewell, few thought she would return to write another chapter in her sporting story.
On Tuesday, a few miles down the road from Wimbledon, where she won seven singles crowns, Williams stepped out in late afternoon sunshine in front of a packed stand at Queen’s Club. Kitted out in light pink, Williams looked business-like as she began her warm-up for the match, going through her routines as her incredible career record was read out.

The veteran tennis star was delighted after playing her first competitive games since the 2022 US Open. She praised her doubles partner, Mboko, after the win, saying, “It was so fun. I had so much fun playing with Victoria. She really was able to hold up the team and play big in the big moments. I could really rely on her.” While Williams continues to focus on the Queen’s Club tournament, she has yet to confirm her future in singles.
