The Indian cricket team is receiving praise from all corners for their successful campaign in the recently concluded ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, where they emerged as world champions. The Suryakumar Yadav-led Team India outperformed New Zealand in all three departments in the final clash and became the first team in the T20 World Cup history to defend the title, and that too at home!

While the Men in Blue’s journey looked smooth, the road to success was full of challenges. According to Shivam Dube, the team’s biggest growth actually came after a difficult moment in the tournament.

Shivam Dube Makes Big Revelation on Team India’s Comeback In T20 World Cup 2026

Speaking to the Indian Express, Shivam Dube explained that India’s defeat to the South Africa national cricket team in the first match of the Super Eight stage proved to be a crucial turning point. That setback pushed the team to raise its standards and eventually helped them produce their best performance when it mattered most.

That loss, in Dube’s view, forced the team to regroup and come back stronger.

“As a team, we peaked after the loss against South Africa. Before that game, we were playing well, but we all pulled up our socks after that. We were a completely different team, and our best came in the final,” Dube said.

"My Role Was Simple...." - Shivam Dube

Shivam Dube played an instrumental role in India's success in the marquee tournament. His quick-fire knocks boosted India's confidence. The all-rounder delivered when the team needed him most, including a crucial quick-fire 43 in the semi-final against England, which helped India secure a narrow seven-run victory. He also chipped in with a valuable 26 not out in the final, once again proving his ability to step up in pressure situations. He amassed 235 runs during the tournament.

The all-rounder credited clear communication from the team management for helping him perform with confidence.

He revealed that his responsibilities were explained well in advance by head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav, which allowed him to stay focused on what the team needed from him.

My role was simple and communicated a long time ago by coach Gautam Gambhir and Surya bhai - keeping the strike rate high. If I’m asked to bowl, keep a tight line and keep the runs down. During the last World Cup, too, I had a similar role, but that time I had only a couple of big knocks. This time, I told myself that I won’t think too far ahead and take things match by match,” Dube said.

Having a clear role helped Dube perform better. Instead of trying to do everything, he focused on what the team needed. Confidence and preparation also helped him during the tournament. He trusted his abilities and the hard work he had put in before it began.

I always had the confidence and just backed myself. I had worked hard on it. There was clarity in what the team wanted from me. I didn’t promise anything to myself, and the goal was to win the World Cup at home,” he said.

His words show the mindset behind India’s successful campaign. Instead of chasing personal milestones, the team stayed focused on the bigger goal.
