With a host of cricketing stars attending Wimbledon matches in the past, Indian Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill is set to join the ranks as men’s semi-final looms on July 10, Friday. The right-handed batter has reportedly received an invitation to watch the Grand Slam event from the prestigious Royal Box. However, it’s unclear whether Gill will be attending any of the semi-final or will grace the occasion for the tournament-decider.

With Gill becoming the fourth Indian captain to receive the elite invitation, the others are Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. There have also been reports about Kohli and Tendulkar attending the Wimbledon 2026 semi-final between Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner. If both Kohli and Tendulkar grace the occasion along with Gill, it will be Indian cricket royalty in Wimbledon.

The right-handed batter has reached London early to gear up for the forthcoming ODI series against England, which will get underway on July 14, Tuesday at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. The Punjab-born cricketer has been in good form and scored heavily in the 3-0 50-overs series victory over Afghanistan, notching scores of 84* and 126 in the two innings he batted. Given the ongoing struggles of the Indian T20I side, headlined by series losses to Ireland and England, the onus will be on Gill to get their fortunes back on track. Since the youngster will also be leading India in the 2027 ODI World Cup, a series win in England would be a massive boost.
Wimbledon 2026: Can Novak Djokovic withstand Jannik Sinner’s challenge?
Coming back to Tennis, Djokovic faces an acid test against Sinner, who is arguably one of the fastest emerging Tennis stars. The two players battled it out most recently in the Australian Open 2026 semi-final, with Djokovic emerging victorious 3–6, 6–3, 4–6, 6–4, 6–4 to end his five-match losing streak against Sinner. However, Sinner still holds a narrow head-to-head lead over the veteran, winning 6 out of 11 games.
The second semi-final will be between Arthur Fery and Alexander Zverev. Despite Fery’s promising run from being a wildcard, Zverev, who clinched the French Open 2026 title, looms as an overwhelming favourite.
