India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill had another forgettable day at the office after he got out for 14 in the second innings of the Ranji Trophy fixture between Punjab and Saurashtra. After failing to leave a mark in the first innings where he got for 0, Gill was undone for 14 in the second innings. The right-handed batter was dismissed by Parth Bhut in both the innings.
Chasing 319, Punjab were bundled out for 125 in the second innings with Dharmendrasinh Jadeja and Parth Bhut picking up five wickets each. Uday Saharan top-scored for Punjab with 31.

Again saying Shubman gill is the most overrated player in the history of Indian cricket…
Domestic matches don’t provide flat track pitches that’s why he is struggling there to score whereas,in international matches more than 90% of matches happens on flat tracks… pic.twitter.com/wqN9aUsrgs— Rakesh (@Rakesh328334981) January 23, 2026
Shubman Gill — not a prince, just a player.

Earlier, Gill had said it would be great if the Indian players had time to participate in 15-day red-ball camps before a Test series.
“Gill was very clear that the team needed better preparation before going into a Test series. There was an issue with the itinerary this season where the team didn’t have much time to prepare. Gill recommended to the Board that it would be ideal if there were 15-day red-ball camps before a Test series,” the TOI report quoted a BCCI source as saying.
“One of the suggestions that I was very keen on is, if you look at the last two Test series that we played, we didn’t have that much time to prepare,” Gill had said.
“It’s not easy playing another match in a different country and then playing in India on the fourth day. Especially when you’re travelling on long tours. I think it’s important to at least have some bit of preparation, sometimes. Especially when changing from white-ball format to red-ball. So this was one of the things that I was very keen on, and I think we’ll take some action, and we’ll keep it in mind to be able to prepare well before the start of any red-ball series,” he added.
