Team India’s T20I captain Shreyas Iyer’s sister Shresta Iyer has grabbed the eyeballs of the fans with a story in support of Sonam Wangchuk via her official account on the social media platform of Instagram, with the latter currently on a 20-day hunger strike. Shresta has notably faced backlash over posting the Instagram story, claiming that she is supporting an anti-government campaign, with the movement picking up plenty of traction, especially among the youth.
What is the story posted by Shreyas Iyer’s sister?
Taking to Instagram, Shresta shared a story of a TV Actor that said:
“A man is fasting while children are waiting for their future to be protected. Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike is not just about a protest, it is a cry for the rights, education, environment and future of the next generation. When a citizen has to sacrifice his own health just to be heard, it is time for those in power to stop looking away and start listening. History remembers those who stood with the people, not those who ignored their voices.”

For the unversed, Wangchuk is currently on a hunger strike in Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, seeking reforms in the current educational system of India and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He is currently with the protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a party formed against alleged NEET paper leaks and irregularities. A dancer and an influencer, Shresta Iyer was also copped backlash during IPL 2026 for jokingly posting a reel after her Punjab Kings, led by her brother Shreyas Iyer, had ‘gifted’ a point to the winless Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) following a washout at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. With fans allegedly abusing her family over the reel, she slammed them.
When will Shreyas Iyer be in action next?
On the cricketing side of things, Shreyas will next be in action during the third ODI between India and England on July 19, Friday at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. The right-handed batter has performed well in the first two games, hitting 35 and 66 but the Men in Blue lost the second game. Iyer had top-scored for India with 66 in the second ODI in Cardiff but a collapse from 178/3 to 233 all out meant the tourists were severely under par.
Hence, Team India must resolve their batting issues to win the series-decider.
