Sophie Cunningham may be one of the WNBA’s most talked-about players off the court, but according to the Indiana Fever guard, that attention has not exactly translated into a busy dating life. Despite being ranked No. 1 on the “Baller Babes” list of the league’s 25 most attractive players, Cunningham says she rarely gets approached romantically.
Cunningham addressed the subject during a recent appearance on the “Like a Farmer” podcast, which is filmed inside a boot store in Scottsdale. During a segment where guests pick questions from a cowboy boot, she was asked about her worst first date. Before answering, however, Cunningham clarified that she does not really go on dates and that people generally do not approach her in the first place.

Sophie Cunningham may attract plenty of attention, but the Indiana Fever guard says that does not necessarily mean people are confident enough to approach her. Asked about her dating life during a recent podcast appearance, Cunningham admitted that she rarely goes on dates and does not often find people making the first move.
“People don’t come up to me. I don’t really go on dates,” she said. Cunningham was initially asked to share details about her worst first date, but instead of answering, she handed the question back to host Pat Spinosa. When Spinosa asked why she believed people were hesitant to approach her, Cunningham had a theory.
According to Cunningham, the explanation is something she has heard repeatedly from people who know her well, including male friends she has known since childhood. She believes she may unintentionally come across as difficult to approach or as someone who is out of reach. “I think I just maybe give off, like, an intimidating vibe,” the Missouri native said.
That impression apparently does not last long once people get to know her. Cunningham said her friends would describe her very differently, with one view being that she is actually “the biggest freaking dweeb anyone will ever meet.” Her 6-foot-1 height could also contribute to the perception, particularly since she has previously said she would not date someone shorter than her.
How Cunningham’s Upbringing Shapes Her Dating Life
Spinosa offered his own explanation, suggesting Cunningham’s personality could partly come from her upbringing. “She’s one of us, and the fact of how you were raised, who raised you, where you grew up, like the s—t that you would do for fun,” he said. Cunningham has also previously said she prefers “more of a manly man,” while her last confirmed relationship was with Missouri State two-sport athlete Jakob Neidig in 2020. She was later linked to Grand Canyon University athletic trainer Frank Adams, although that relationship was never confirmed.
Since joining Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever in 2025, Cunningham’s profile has continued to rise through endorsement opportunities, a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue appearance and increased attention away from the court. Yet despite the growing spotlight, she says that attention has not resulted in a rush of potential suitors actually approaching her.
