Sorba Thomas Escapes Injury After Land Rover Flips Onto Roof in Crash
Hull City winger Sorba Thomas has escaped injury after being involved in a rollover car crash near the club’s training ground in Cottingham on Friday morning. The Wales international was reportedly driving a Land Rover Defender when the vehicle flipped onto its roof on Millhouse Woods Lane, a narrow residential road close to the Tigers’ training base. Emergency services, including police and fire crews, were called to the scene at around 9am.
Images of the £60,000 Defender, which had a personalised registration, quickly spread across social media and showed the vehicle lying upside down on the road. The extent of the damage to the car raised concerns among Hull supporters, while pictures from the scene also appeared to show a member of the club’s staff, understood to be manager Sergej Jakirovic, present after the incident. The exact circumstances that led to the crash remain unclear.
Hull City later issued a statement to confirm that Thomas had not suffered any injuries and had managed to get out of the vehicle without assistance being required for serious injuries. The club said: “Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club’s Cottingham training ground. “The club is aware of images of Sorba’s car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed.”
Hull Boss Sergej Jakirovic Praises Sorba Thomas Ahead of Chelsea Clash
Thomas only joined Hull from Stoke City on transfer deadline day in a deal reported to be worth around £10million to £10.5million. The 27-year-old made his debut for the Tigers as a late substitute in their 0-0 Premier League draw against Aston Villa last weekend, marking his first appearance in the top flight. He then made his first start for the club in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Sunderland, playing the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 defeat.
The crash comes just days after Jakirovic spoke positively about the new signing and outlined how he could be used in Hull’s attack. The manager said Thomas can operate as a left winger or move into a more central No. 10 role, while also praising his delivery, end product, set-piece ability, pace and defensive work. “I don’t have any doubt about Sorba because he made a difference in the Championship (at Stoke),” he said. “He is a left winger and we can use him inside like a left (sided) number 10. He knows football. He is very good in delivery and his end product is good. Also, he has very good set-pieces.
“He is sharp and has speed. Also, in defence, he is very responsible. I think he suits us a lot. Like always, I hope he can help us.” Thomas, who has earned 27 caps for Wales, is therefore expected to remain available for Hull’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Chelsea, with the Tigers travelling to London. Despite the frightening nature of the accident and the damage to his vehicle, the winger emerged completely unscathed and can now focus on his first season with Hull.
