With former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly turning 54 on July 8, Wednesday, a massive announcement has been made to pay tribute to his illustrious career. Ganguly, affectionately the ‘Prince of Kolkata’, will soon be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, joining elite Indian cricketers like MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag among others.

Sourav Ganguly’s career achievements
Having been appointed as captain following the match-fixing scandal in the early 2000s, Ganguly helped the Men in Blue through to some of the most famous wins witnessed in Indian cricket. It was under the left-handed batter that India registered a famous come-from-behind Test series victory at home over Australia in 2001 that included bouncing back from a 274-run deficit to coast to an unforgettable victory. The southpaw also lifted them to the final of the 2003 World Cup final, their first since the 1983 edition. The veteran is the third most successful Indian Test skipper behind Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, recording 21 victories in 49 games, including a series draw in Australia.
With the bat, the 54-year-old amassed over 15000 international runs and was known as the ‘God of the Off-side’ for his sumptuous drives through the cover region. Ganguly’s tally of 11363 ODI runs is the fourth-highest for India behind Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He had also featured in the IPL for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Pune Warriors.
Additionally, Ganguly had served as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2019 to 2022 and was also elected President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) unopposed. Moreover, Ganguly is currently the coach of the Pretoria Capitals in SA20 and could be appointed in the same role for the Delhi Capitals for IPL 2027.
